Step-by-Step Workbook

We have assembled, in Adobe Acrobat PDF format, a step-by-step workbook you can download and use at your convenience. You can make copies for others helping in the campaign.

In it is a description of the various steps that can be taken to successfully begin, work on, and complete, a campaign to ban cruel traps, particularly in any part of the U.S. (although much of the information is easily applicable elsewhere).

Please note that the most successful outcomes most often occur at the local, or municipal, level. That is because local politicians are most responsive to the kinds of pressure that you, and like-minded people, can generate in order to protect your companion animals and wildlife within your own community.

The workbook is not exhaustive, but it provides tried and true methods that can be used by both first-time campaigners and those who are fully experienced in animal protection campaign work.

Model Letters & Legislation

Most campaigns involve the communication of ideas, concerns, facts, and solutions. Thus letter writing is important.

Legislators have the ultimate power to change the law, but you can provide them with model legislation that can be copied for, or adapted to, their community.

At the state level you can work to ban body-gripping traps.

One of the biggest problems faced by animals victimized by trapping is the lack of regulations for Nuisance Wildlife Control Operators. We have provided a model bill to correct that situation.
